Our services in the field of malting technology

Lausmann’s malting technology includes all technical systems required for efficient and controlled malt production:

  • Steeping systems: Flat-bottom steeping tanks and hopper steeping tanks ensure uniform water absorption of the grain and create optimal conditions for the germination process.
  • Germination systems: Germination boxes based on the LAUSMANN system or the Saladin principle enable precise control of germination and uniform batch development.
  • Kilning technology: Energy-efficient kilns ensure gentle drying of the malt and guarantee consistently high product quality.
  • Silo and storage technology: Silo systems provide safe storage of raw materials and reliable separation of individual batches.
  • Conveying and transport systems: Product-friendly conveying technology connects all process stages and ensures efficient material flow within the malting plant.
  • Automation and process control: Modern control systems enable automated and flexible management of all process stages.

The advantages of our modern malting technology

Lausmann systems were specifically developed for modern maltings that require controllable malt quality and flexible production processes.

  • Individual batch handling: Each batch can be treated separately, allowing different recipes and production requirements to be implemented flexibly.
  • Gentle handling of germinating grain: All systems are designed for particularly careful treatment of the grain.
  • High process control: Automated control systems enable precise monitoring and control of all production steps.
  • Production flexibility: Plants can be adapted to different grain types, production volumes, and recipes.
  • Hygienic production conditions: Clearly separated process areas ensure clean and controlled production environments.
  • Durable technology: Robust components and high-quality manufacturing ensure a long service life of the systems.

The LAUSMANN transfer box system

A particular strength of Lausmann’s malting technology is its proprietary transfer box system. This system was specifically developed for controlled and hygienic malt production. The germination boxes consist of several connected compartments, each containing a daily batch. A turning carriage with rotating paddles loads and unloads the individual boxes.

The key advantage of this system is the clear separation of batches. Each germination box contains a daily batch and is completely separated from the adjacent box. This allows individual batches to be treated separately, creating optimal conditions for controlled germination according to specific recipes.

The kiln is directly connected to the system and is also loaded by the turning carriage. This eliminates the need for additional conveying equipment and ensures particularly gentle product handling throughout the entire process.

Additional Plant Concepts in Malting Technology

In addition to the LAUSMANN system, we also implement other plant solutions for different production requirements:

  • Saladin system: A classic germination method with round or rectangular germination boxes for stable production processes.
  • Tower malting plant: A compact plant concept with vertically arranged process stages and optimized use of space.

All systems can be individually adapted to production capacity, building conditions, and specific process requirements.

Key Process Steps at a Glance

Steeping
The steeping process forms the basis for high-quality malt production. Lausmann uses flat-bottom steeping tanks or hopper steeping tanks depending on the requirements. Both systems enable uniform water absorption and create optimal conditions for the germination process. The steeping process is fully automated but can also be operated manually if required.

Germination
Depending on the plant concept, germination takes place according to the LAUSMANN system or the SALADIN principle. Both systems feature individually controllable aeration and targeted heat management. Turning and redistributing the germinating grain is performed automatically and very gently.

Kilning
The kiln ensures uniform and energy-efficient drying of the malt. In the LAUSMANN system, the kiln is directly connected to the germination line and separated by an insulated kiln gate. This keeps the germination process stable while the finished malt is dried efficiently.
